Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Looks:
We have mixed views from people about Maruti Suzuki A-Star where some people are calling it a dashing and a good looking car, whereas many people are viewing it as an ugly looking car with headlamps that look Goofy eyed with a beautiful grill, uninteresting and regular sides where the rear windows make the big tyres on a small car look lopsided towards the rear windows. complementing its lopsidedness is the tail gate which seems like a flat opening with the closing hatch fragile enough for the buyers to reconsider its safety.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Interior: ***
Coming to the interiors of the car, Maruti has lived up to its image of providing a classy finish with good materials in 2-tone grey in contrast to the beige which would have again gone against the looks of the car. However a problem area that was noticed was that the door pockets were small and the cup holders so incorporated were nothing as compared to those of Zen and Wagon R.
The dashboard illumination is worth a mention here too as Maruti has for once decided to stash the cliched n conventional and incorporated red illumination which is quite hideous. The speedometers and dinky tachometers follow suit in being hideous and becoming a major design disaster.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Front Space Headroom: **1/2
reel 3: front space headroom:**1/2.
front space legroom:****.
rear space headroom: **.
rear legroom: **.
Talking about the spacing, Kudos to the front space leg room, which is more than that of i-10, and can comfortably accommodate a person of any size and any height. It is specially a boon for tall drivers who have to put up great discomfort in small cars. The good news ends right here. The tilt steering and seat Height adjustment are nightmares. Headroom is not as great as the leg room endangering the passengers of any unfortunate accident while passing over any potholes on the road.
The rear leg room is nothing in comparison to the front which is even less than an alto. This coupled with the small headroom and small rear windows can make any persons claustrophobic dreams come scarily true. The nightmare continues as u realize the absence of dead pedal.
Honestly, Maruti still has a long way to go before it can come up with a small car which is comfortable and spacious at the same time.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Boot Space: *
If you are the vacationing types, who likes to pack your bags and hit the road for a small get away, this car is definitely not what you would want as the boot is so small (even smaller than its flagship car Maruti 800) that it makes us wonder whether it was made to solve a purpose or has just been put there to complete the design?!!
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Engine at idle: ****
For a 3 cylinder, the engine at idle is superbly defined given its DOHC Aluminium cylinder head and block (etc).
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Performance and Review Drive: **
Maruti Suzuki A-Star performance is not an extra ordinary one. Maruti Suzuki had done everything well on the papers, but when the Maruti Suzuki A-Star had been driven on the roads then it is really under powered car and performance is really not up to the mark.
All New All aluminum 12-Valve, 3 Cyl KB Series DOHC engine with 998CC, 67 HP @ 6000 RPM and 90 nm Torque at 3500 rpm, This really looks nice on the papers but it really felt even worse than the 10 year old Hyundai Santro, although Hyundai i10 1.2L kappa engine is in a different league altogether.
WheelSpins are very easy on Maruti Suzuki A-Star but the initia acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear is really lacking up as compared to the Hyundai Twins Hyundai i10 1.1L and 1.2L. If compared With Hyundai i10 1.2L Kappa DOHC engine, it stands nowhere in terms of performance. Hyundai i10 1.2L Kappa is way ahead of Maruti Suzuki A-Star in terms of performance, no matter if it is a low end performance or a high end performance. So, Hyundai i10 1.2 Kappa is a clear winner.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Gearbox: ***
The gear box comes as a respite which has a smooth shifting short throw gear box which has even ratios, overlooking the awkward gap between the 2nd and the 3rd gear everything else is in order in that department.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Ride:***
For a small sized car, Maruti Suzuki A-Star provides an astounding ride to its passengers given its seating on 155/80 R13 tubeless tyres. The front passengers enjoy a reasonably comfortable drive over small rough surfaces but at high speed the car tends to skid a bit too much and the inherent risk of the head banging into the roof while passing over the potholes given the small head space cannot be ignored nonetheless.
The rear passengers in Maruti Suzuki A-Star however would be far from comfort as the suspension which is built to perform well on slow speed tends to start displaying its restrictions on high speeds given the isolated trailing arm coil suspension which makes for a bouncy ride and the car getting unsettled on very bad roads.
The same suspension as that of an Alto should have been used in Maruti Suzuki A-Star which is an independent rear suspension with telescopic shock absorbers which would have imparted a better ride quality.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Handling:
Electronic power steering aka EPS always has its own limit. Maruti Suzuki A-Star steering feel is really artificial and numb and the Maruti Suzuki A-Star does not respond to the direction changes. In short, the all new Maruti Suzuki Alto A-Star is not that much responsive, that It would had been. Really light feel of the steering in Maruti Alto A-Star makes it feel really disconnected from the wheels, If we compare it with Hyundai i10. Again Hyundai i10 is very much responsive car than Maruti Suzuki Alto A-Star.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Stability: low speed: ***, highway speed: **.
No matter how aerodynamic the car is, its diminutive size means that at low speeds, its stability is great aided by the rear suspension design and tall profile tyres, but at high speeds over 90 KMPH, Maruti Suzuki A-Star really gets unstable and its really hard to control the car at high speeds.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Brakes:
Maruti Suzuki A-Star is equipped with ABS + EBD, but Maruti Suzuki haven’t done a great job in the car. When the hard braking is done it is not good as its rivalry Hyundai i10. Hyundai did a serious great job when Hyundai i10 comes to the braking.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Review Stereo:
For a factory fitted unit in Maruti Suzuki Alto A-Star ZXI with 4-speakers, it sounded pretty good. it is mp3/wma compatible and also comes with an i-pod auxiliary input jack. however, absence of a steering remote was a glaring omission.
Maruti Suzuki A-Star Final Verdict:
Maruti Suzuki A-Star is overpriced for what it offers and the Maruti Suzuki alto LXI for Rs 65,000 less than an Maruti A-star lxi is clearly a better deal despite the alto being 9-years old a compared to the brand new A-star.
Best Options:
1. Hyundai i10 1.2L Kappa
2. Chevy Spark
